This seven-day brass skeletal clock was made by French prisoners of war in Scotland between 1812 and 1814 in what is now HM Prison Perth.

This skeletal seven-day clock is made of brass and rests on a wooden base.

The prisoners held in Scotland were mostly sailors from captured French privateers - privately-owned armed ships sent out to attack and plunder enemy trading ships. Thousands of French prisoners of war were kept in confinement in Perth, Edinburgh Castle and Valleyfield, Midlothian. Prisoners made objects such as this clock to exchange for extra food and clothing.
