Galloway Motor Company Car, Dumfries - made 1927This motor car was made by the Galloway Motor Company in Dumfries in 1927. In the same year the car was registered to a doctor in Marton, near Middlesbrough. It was sold in 1960 to Frank Hodgson, a well-known pre-war speedway rider from Yarm in Stockton-on-Tees before passing to Leith Motor Works. The car is in its original condition with blue paintwork, tool kit and two sets of 1920s snow chains. The registration number is 'DC 6870'. The Galloway Motor Company was formed by the Arrol Johnston Company of Dumfries in 1921 to utilise a factory at Tongland in Kirkcudbright. By 1924 the cars being built were to an indigenous design and production had moved to the main factory at Heathall in Dumfries. The managing director of Galloway was Dorothy Pullinger, daughter of T.C. Pullinger who was Arrol Johnston's manager. The cars were built by a largely female workforce.
