Wooden boat bailerThis wooden boat bailer was found in the peat near Creagan Nighean Dhomhnuill Mhic Iain on Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. Wooden boat bailers must have been used from earliest times, but rarely survive. This one was used sometime between 810 and 520 BC. The bailer has a squared-off end and tapers slightly towards the handle end. The seas and waterways around Scotland have made contact easier rather than acting as a barrier.
