Made in Edinburgh
This silver bowl, dated 1886-7, was made in Edinburgh by William Marshall.
The shallow bowl, which sits on a large bell-shaped foot, is decorated with a wide band of alternate round cartouches and panels of flowers.
Domestic silverware was a mark of taste and status. Customers visiting the silver department of any large department store and those who patronized fashionable silversmiths in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee or Aberdeen found a great range of goods.
