Water filter, made in Portobello, Midlothian
This salt-glazed stoneware water filter was made in 1837 by Hugh Cornwall. Cornwall was a partner in the firm of Milne, Cornwall & Co which operated a 'salt glaze work' at Portobello in Midlothian from about 1835 to 1845.
At the base of the body of the filter is a tap-hole, above which are the words 'H.Cornwall Potter Portobello 1837'.
