Settle designed by Charles Rennie Macintosh
This hall settle was designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, an architect and designer. It was made by Guthrie and Wells, Glasgow, about 1895.
The oak hall settle has been stained dark, set with a beaten lead panel and the seats covered with two modern stencilled linen covers, based on photographs of the originals.
Charles Rennie Mackintosh, 1868-1928, was an innovative architect and designer. He created a look which became known as the 'Glasgow Style'. He considered everything in a building or interior layout, including light fittings and wall finishes.
