Add to albumThis hand-coloured fashion plate from the English monthly magazine, La Belle Assembleé, illustrates the christening robe and cap of the infant Princess Elizabeth, daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Clarence. The plate is dated 1 March, 1821.
The text at the foot of the plate states that the robe and cap were 'prepared... by G. F. Urling and Co., Manufacturers to His Majesty, H.R.H. the Duchess of Clarence, Etc'. The plate was drawn and engraved by W. Read.
La Belle Assembleé (1806-69), produced a number of issues containing an attractive four-page advertisement for Urling's lace. Urling's shop in London's Strand was depicted with small samples of lace pasted onto it to represent merchandise in the shop window.
