This wooden wool holder dates from the 19th century.
The surface of the spherical wool holder is covered with varnished paper of tartan design, on which, in small gold letters, is the name 'Prince Charlie'. This is a fine example of 'Mauchline Ware' named after the process patented in 1850 by the Smith brothers of Mauchline, Ayrshire.
