Add to albumThis hand-coloured fashion plate is from Le Petit Courrier des Dames, a weekly fashion magazine published in Paris. The plate is one of a series entitled, 'Modes de Paris' and illustrates menswear. Dated 1836, it was engraved by Damours.
The outfit on the left consists of a frock coat, trousers and waistcoat all made out of different materials. By this time, it was no longer necessary to have a suit made out of the one fabric.
Le Petit Courrier des Dames (1822-65) included one or two fashion plates with each weekly issue. The plates are not usually signed but the styles of the better known artists are easily recognisable and identified.
