BowlThis clear glazed cream ware bowl was made in the 1820s, possibly by Reid's Pottery of Musselburgh in East Lothian. The bowl has a cushion foot and a deep band of moulded crossed basket weave set with three cartouches printed and painted with sprigs of flowers. The inside has three similar groups of flowers around the upper part. Pottery has been made in Scotland since prehistoric times, but it was not until the 18th century that domestic pottery began to be mass produced on an industrial scale. By the early 1800s, potteries in Musselburgh, Portobello and Prestonpans, all near Edinburgh, were producing a wide range of wares, from soft-paste porcelain to transfer-printed earthenware.
