RecordPlate (1 of 2)< 1 of 1 > Back made at Urbino, Italy
Plate (1 of 2)This maiolica plate was made in the late 16th century at Urbino in Italy. It is from an accouchement set which consisted of five to seven bowls and plates with a cup and possibly a salt cellar that fitted together, one piece on top of the other. They were given as gifts to mothers after confinements and regarded as commemorative presents which were also practical. The plate is painted in polychrome, with Cupid in the centre surrounded by grotesques and foliage. Record detailsTo search on related items, click any linked text below.
