Cheese stand & coverThis earthenware cheese stand and cover were made by the Glasgow potters, J. and M.P. Bell and Company. They date from between 1842 and 1880. The sides of the cover are relief moulded with flowers, ferns and toadstools. By the middle of the 19th century, the area of Glasgow and the Clyde basin was undoubtedly the heartland of the Scottish pottery industry, with several of the biggest firms such as J. & M. P. Bell and Robert Cochran's Verreville and Britannia potteries. Record detailsTo search on related items, click any linked text below.
