Decorative ironwork, in shape of leaves

These two pieces of decorative wrought ironwork were made by the Edinburgh smithing firm of Thomas Hadden. They date from the late 19th or early 20th century.

The pieces are in the form of curved leaves. The leaf on the top has a short scrolled stem curled underneath.

In the late 19th and early 20th century, Scottish firms such as Haddens underwent a revival due to increasing interest in Scottish styles and workmanship of wrought iron. This tradition had declined earlier in the 19th century due to mass production of cheaper cast iron.
