made in Britain
This tin candlestick dates from the early 19th century.
The candlestick is stamped on the base 'BRITISH MAKE / (B?)OUTTERWARE'. It is pictured here with its reflector head for throwing and intensifying a beam of light. The rim on which the hood rests serves as a conventional drip tray when the hood is removed. The barrel shaft of the candlestick contains a spring which presses the candle up as it burns down, thus keeping the flame at a constant level.
