Add to albumThis full page advertisement is from La Mode Illustreé, a fashion magazine published in Paris. Dating from 1872, the advert is for paper models and patterns produced by Madame Marie Schild of Covent Garden, London.
Madame Schild offers to supply life-sized paper models which would show 'exactly how the material would appear when made up'. She can supply 'residents abroad or in the colonies...punctually by return mail'. The price for a complete set of underwear is 6s 6d.
La Mode Illustreé was one of the first magazines to include articles on underwear. The garments were not shown on the figures, but were folded in such a way as to accentuate the details of the lace and embroidery.
