A sconce is a bracket fixed to a wall for holding candles or lights, with a plaque which acts as a reflector. This is a detail from a brass sconce dating from the 17th or 18th century.
The detail shows the coat-of-arms in the centre of the sconce. In the quarters, the arms have two lions rampant, a check pattern and three diamonds.
