Add to albumThis is the reverse of a copper halfpenny trade token of Henry Harrison of Edinburgh. The token is dated 1796.
The reverse depicts an anchor with the date date split into two on either side - '17' to the left and '96' to the right. The surrounding text reads 'H. HARRISON. ST. LEONARDS. EDIN.'
It has been estimated that between 1787 and 1817 over 10,000 different types of trade token were issued. Although some pennies were produced, the tokens were issued mainly in farthing or halfpenny denominations.
