This is a detail of a brass lantern is dated 1750 and believed to have been handed down from generation to generation in the family of Fairbairn of Cockburnspath in East Lothian.
The detail shows the engraving near the top of the lantern. It reads 'P FAIRBAIRN COVE 1750'.
The lantern may have been used to warn vessels from the rocks at Cove in East Lothian.
