Colour woodblock print, ukiyo-e

Set of three surimono of high quality with a ground of gold flecks and silver hollyhock leaves. These form a triptych of a court lady, a geisha, and a courtesan, with each print signed Cho-or-o Kuniyoshi.

This set of three surimono show a court lady with a fan in her mouth, far left, a geisha, or lady entertainer tuning her samisen or Japanese lute in the middle and a courtesan, the highest rank of prostitute, tying her obi in front as worn by such ladies
