RecordEarly ceramic potFrom Culduthel, Inverness-shire
Early ceramic potThis ceramic pot was found at Culduthel at Inverness in Inverness-shire. It was placed in a cist burial, along with a range of archery equipment, an amber bead and a fire steel, between 2300 and 1800 BC. It probably contained an offering of food or drink. The pot is decorated in bands of horizontal comb-stamped lines, alternating with vertical or oblique stamps. It has been restored from many fragments. From around 2500 BC, individual burial became popular over much of Scotland. This man was clearly an important individual, buried with objects proclaiming his status as an archer and warrior, as well as other grave goods for the afterlife.
