Map (sheet 11), Map of Scotland, published by John Stockdale, Piccadilly, LondonThis is sheet 11 from the twelve sheets which make up the 'Map of Scotland', a folding map published by John Stockdale of Piccadilly in London. Mounted on linen, the map is dated 31 January 1806 and is to a scale of 3.5 miles to 1 inch. Areas included in this sheet are the Mull of Kintyre, the Isle of Arran, the Firth of Clyde, Ayrshire, and Dumfries and Galloway. New techniques had helped Scotland become one of the best mapped countries of the 17th-century world. The trend continued and the newly improved maps were a boon to travellers.
