Silver scalpel case

This silver scalpel case was presented to T. Metcalf in 1838 by the people of Tyninghame in East Lothian, in gratitude for his programme of vaccination.

The scalpel case contains six scalpels or lancets. The whole was enclosed in a brown leather case.
