This letter, addressed to William Wilson & Sons of Bannockburn near Stirling, is an order for supplying lengths of tartan as per the attached sample. The letter is dated Kincardine, 7 December 1824.
The pencil inscription above the letter reads, 'Macduff'.
Reputedly founded in 1724, with surviving records from 1765, Wilsons' tartan weaving firm created new tartan patterns to order, arranging setts, colours and shades according to taste and demand.
