Add to album

This tartan sample, mounted on paper, was probably woven by William Wilson & Sons, a tartan weaving firm from Bannockburn near Stirling.

Six tartan patterns mounted on paper, unidentified or fancy setts, probably woven by Wilson of Bannockburn

After George IV's visit to Scotland in August 1822, tartan became very fashionable. The visit stimulated the production of tartan fabric, the creation of many new tartan patterns, and the research which identified the setts of each clan and family.
