Suit, made up by Byars of Perth
This three piece tweed suit was made up by Byars of Perth. The pattern, weight and colour of the tweed is similar to that made in several of the Scottish Borders' mills at that time. The suit would have been worn in the 1950s.
The suit consists of a jacket, a pair of trousers and a waistcoat. The material pattern of rows of parallel, slanting lines is known as herringbone as it is similar to the spine formation of a herring.
Although the Border mills produced fabric for making clothes, the clothes themselves were often made up elsewhere. Border tweeds were worn throughout Europe and America.
