This is the back of a twenty shillings banknote issued by the Perth Banking Company on 2 February 1838. The note was printed from steel plates, engraved by Kirkwood & Son of Edinburgh.
The back has been engraved with a black and red revenue stamp.
In 1850, in an attempt to prevent increased incidences of forgery, the Perth Banking Company introduced new attractive steel engraving plates, designed by W H Lizars of Edinburgh.
