Tea bowlThis earthenware tea bowl was made at David Methven & Sons' pottery at Kirkcaldy in Fife. It dates from the second half of the 19th century. The outside of the red tea bowl has a with two houses. The bowl is stamped with Methven's elephant mark, which is similar to that used by a contemporary Dutch pottery. The town of Kirkcaldy on the north shore of the Firth of Forth was one of the major centres of Scottish pottery production. In the second half of the 19th century it had four separate factories.
