Add to albumThis is the obverse of a copper halfpenny trade token of Campbell's snuff shop in Edinburgh. The token dates from 1796.
The obverse bears a figure in Highland dress and is inscribed 'THE GALLANT GARB OF SCOTLAND'. The same obverse appeared on a number of other tokens.
Representations of highlanders were often used on the signs of shops selling snuff and tobacco.
