made in Italy
This maiolica bowl was made in Italy, possibly at Pesaro or Loreto, in the 18th or 19th century. The bowl was made for pilgrims to Loreto.
The bowl is painted in polychrome with the Virgin and Child with a billowing drape above and a church behind. On the outer wall is the inscription 'CON.POL.DI.S.CASA' ('with dust of the Holy House').
