Model, of motor trawler Star of Scotland

This wooden model represents the motor trawler 'Star of Scotland', a diesel-engined fishing vessel built in 1947 for the Walker Steam Trawling Fishing Company. Built by Hall, Russell & Company of Aberdeen, she operated on the Faroes fishing grounds until 1960. The model was built to a scale of 1:32 by Mr P A Rumbelow of Great Yarmouth.

'Star of Scotland' was designed with the comfort of the crew in mind. Instead of the usual cramped quarters at the fore-end of the ship, the crew slept in single and double cabins amidships and aft, with separate sitting-rooms for the officers and the crew. There was also covered access to the bridge.

This design was adopted by progressive owners and builders and conditions generally improved for the crews of the trawlers. In 1960, 'Star of Scotland' went to Dagon Fishing (part of the Colne group) at Lowestoft in Suffolk. She was renamed 'Jamaica' and was finally broken up in 1976.
