Miniature cradle, souvenir of Provand's Lordship, Glasgow

This porcelain miniature cradle was made for the souvenir market by the Nautilus Porcelain Company at the Possil Pottery in Glasgow and dates from between around 1900 and 1910.

The back of the cradle hood is decorated with a shield containing three acorns and a scroll below reading 'PROVAND'S LORDSHIP GLASGOW'.

Provand's Lordship is the oldest surviving house in Glasgow. It was built in 1471 by Bishop Andrew Muirhead for the Preceptor of the Hospital of St Nicholas. The house later became one of 32 manses in the area surrounding Glasgow Cathedral. Mary, Queen of Scots is said to have stayed at Provand's Lordship on a visit to Glasgow.
