MountThis square mount of sheet bronze was found at the site of the Roman fort at Newstead in Roxburghshire. It dates from between 80 and 180 AD. The mount has a central hole for fastening. It is corroded and broken on one side. Newstead was the largest auxiliary fort in Scotland in the late 1st century AD. In the 2nd century it held a cavalry regiment and legionary detachment.
