Buckle
Add to album

This iron buckle was found at the site of the Roman fort at Newstead in Roxburghshire. It was probably used on harness, sometime between 80 and 180 AD.

The rectangular buckle is lacking its tongue.

A range of harness equipment has been found at Newstead, including buckles, strap fasteners, terminals, junctions and mounts. Some are simple, for everyday use, and others more ornate, for ceremonial occasions.
