Wooden stool frame, from royal burial
This stool frame is among the grave goods from the grave of a 17th Dynasty queen and her child at Qurneh in Egypt. It was found with a second stool frame outside the queen's coffin.
The frame comprises four wooden struts and four legs, joined with mortice and tenon joints. Scraps of linen fabric found attached to it when excavated suggest that the seat had been made of linen. Its unworn condition indicates it had not been used much.
This grave, from the burial place of the kings and queens of Thebes, is remarkable as it dates from a time when Egypt was politically divided and relatively poor. The queen and her child have been lavishly equipped for the Afterlife.
