Tapestry, entitled The Ka Door, by Anna S. King
Add to album

This woven tapestry entitled 'The Ka Door' was made by the artist Anna S. King in 1985. The design was inspired by decoration on an ancient Egyptian sarcophagus.

The tapestry was woven with cotton warp and wefts of wool, cotton, silk cashmere and lurex. The design has a small gold door with a decorated surround and lintel in blue, red, gold, black and white, in a dark indigo surround.

During the 1980s the Scottish Development Agency purchased a number of hand-crafted items for its Scottish Crafts Collection. The aim of the collection was to inform the public of craft production in Scotland through touring exhibitions and education programmes. When the Scottish Craft Council was wound up, the collection was transferred to the National Museums of Scotland.
