RecordDish stand< 1 of 1 > Back made in Bo'ness, West Lothian
Dish standThis dish stand was made in the second half of the 19th century at Bo'ness Pottery in West Lothian. The dish stand has a transfer-printed inscription reading 'Ye fearful saints, fresh courage take/ The clouds ye so much dread,/ Are big with mercy, and shall break/ In blessings on your head.' Good supplies of coal and clay and easy transport by sea meant that the south side of the Firth of Forth was an ideal location for potteries to develop. Small-scale works existed there from the 17th century and larger factories developed from around 1750. Record detailsTo search on related items, click any linked text below.
