This wooden sailing model is of a cutter-rigged yacht from around 1920. It is built to a scale of 1:32.
The yacht has a gaff mainsail and three headsails or jibs. The gaff is the spar which extends the upper edge of a four-sided fore-and-aft sail. The jib is the triangular sail before the mast or foremast. The model has a wooden hollow hull, a metal keel and incorporates an automatic rudder controlled by a balance weight. Under the weight is a plate inscribed 'BAB'.
Sailing models come in many shapes and sizes and in varying degrees of sophistication. They are a familiar sight on city ponds.
