Log book and photograph, associated with Sergeant George Melville

This log book was that of Sergeant George Melville of the Royal Air Force. It is stamped 'Death Presumed' after his aircraft failed to return from a mission in 1942. It is pictured with photograph of Melville (left) and his fellow crewmen.

Melville's Lancaster aircraft was presumed to have been shot down over the Bay of Biscay. There were no survivors and no bodies were ever recovered.
