Trouser suit
Add to album

This lady's linen bonded and nylon jersey trouser suit dates from around 1970. It was possibly made in Britain.

The linen-look fabric is bonded to nylon jersey which helps to give shape to the suit. Apart from the side bust darts, the top has not been shaped to fit the figure. The top is the same length as the dresses of the day and could be worn without the trousers.

Trousers were first worn by Victorian women for certain categories of work in the nineteenth century, e.g. coal workers. In the period of the First World War, trousers were adopted by women in munition factories or in the construction of planes. From the mid 1960s onwards, they became much more popular and are now suitable for all but the most formal occasions.
