SuitThis man's suit was made in Britain around 1845. It consists of a frock coat, trousers and waistcoat and was worn by a bridegroom. The coat is of navy blue woollen cloth, with gilt-metal buttons. The trousers are by H J & D Nicoll (originally of Cork Street, London) and are of pale grey twilled woollen cloth. The waistcoat is of embroidered cream watered silk. With the popularity of the frock coat, the fashion for suits to be made of the same fabric went out. The waistcoat was the one item which could still be made of silk or velvet, or embroidered. This remained the case until around 1850 when the fancy waistcoat became rather frowned upon. Record detailsTo search on related items, click any linked text below.
