from Lanarkshire
This copper axehead was found in Lanarkshire. It is one of the earliest types of metal axeheads, dating from between 2500 and 2100 BC.
The axehead has a wide butt. Like other axes of this form, the butt is flat and fairly straight, forming a right angle with the sides.
Axes of this shape are not common in Scotland. They were made primarily in Ireland and the Continent, but some were also probably made in Scotland.
