Add to albumThis hand-coloured fashion plate is from Le Journal des Dames et des Modes, a ladies' magazine published in Paris from 1797 until 1839. Dating from 1836, the plate illustrates a gentleman in military costume and a servant in livery from a series entitled, 'Costume Parisien'.
The plate was designed by Louis-Marie Lanté whose signature appears just below the servant's left foot.
Born in 1789, Lanté was one of the best fashion plate designers, producing plates for Le Journal des Modes, La Mode, La Sylphide, Le Journal des Dames et des Modes, and Le Petit Modiste Francais.
