Add to albumThis hand-coloured fashion plate is from Le Journal des Dames et des Modes, a ladies' magazine published in Paris from 1797 until 1839. The plate dates from 1836 and illustrates two gentlemen dressed for a court ball from a series entitled, 'Costume Parisien'.
The outfits are embroidered in gold and silver and lined with satin. The plate was designed by Louis-Marie Lanté.
Born in 1789, Lanté was one of the best fashion plate designers, producing plates for Le Journal des Modes, La Mode, La Sylphide, Le Journal des Dames et des Modes, and Le Petit Modiste Francais.
