This hand-coloured fashion plate is from Le Journal des Dames et des Modes, a ladies' magazine published in Paris. Dating from 1823, the plate illustrates a wedding dress from a series entitled, 'Costume Parisien'.

The woman's hair is decorated with a lace veil and a garland of orange tree flowers.

Fashion plates of wedding dresses appeared in most of the notable fashion magazines every three or six months. They are a quick and easy way to show how fashion trends changed.
