Dining chair
Add to album

This beech dining chair, inlaid with brass and the wood stained to resemble rosewood, was reputedly made by William Young of Earlston for his own use. The 'sabre' legs derive from the ancient Greek 'klismos' form of chair, much admired at that time.

One of a set of six simulated rosewood dining-room chairs with sabre legs, gold brocade padded seats and tablet back panels, by William Young of Earlston, 1800 - 1830
