Floor tiles (fragments)These two pieces of glazed floor tile are from Morton Castle, near Thornhill in Dumfriesshire. They date from the 14th or 15th century. Two pieces of glazed floor tile from Morton Castle, Dumfries-shire, 14th - 15th century Little is known about the history of Morton Castle. In 1369, the lands were passed to the branch of Douglases who became Earls of Morton and it was presumably this family who built most of what remains of the castle.
