from Camelon, Stirlingshire
This wooden bung with a bronze cap was found at the site of the Roman fort at Camelon in Stirlingshire. It was used between 80 and 165 AD as a stopper to a vessel of some kind.
The bung was fitted with a ring, presumably for a chain.
Supplies were imported to the Roman forts in Scotland from a variety of places, both within Britain and abroad. Many goods were transported in bulk in vessels sealed with bungs.
