Soup plateThis transfer-printed earthenware soup plate was made by the Glasgow potters, J. & M.P. Bell & Co. Ltd. It dates from between 1881 and the 1920s. The pattern is called 'CHANTILLEY'. The plate has been printed in pink, with pale blue and pale green highlights painted in. This company was one of the biggest and best known potteries in Scotland. It was founded by the brothers John and Matthew Perston Bell and was in production by 1842. After John's death in 1880, the new limited company continued production.
