JugThis glazed earthenware jug was made by the Glasgow potters, J. & M.P. Bell & Company. It dates from between 1842 and 1880. The jug's sides are decorated with raised painted figures - on one side, two fishwives, on the other a fishwife and a male figure. This company, which became one of the biggest and best known potteries in Scotland, was founded by the brothers John and Matthew Perston Bell and was in production by 1842.
