made in Edinburgh
This pewter bedpan was made in the early 19th century by Robert Whyte, a prolific pewterer based in Edinburgh's Cowgate. Whyte became a freeman of the Incorporation of Hammermen of Edinburgh in 1805.
The bedpan has a circular curved seat and projecting handle which unscrews to allow the pan to be emptied.
